How We Do It
Step 1:
Possibilities Workshop:
Listen and Learn
First, we quantify the overall project priorities through facilitated brainstorming session and attentive listening. Working collectively on a new project is a challenging task as it requires input and consensus from a variety of constituencies. We identify the specific needs and wants of the people, and learn about their roles within the organization. We talk about the “island of what is” and discuss what people like and don’t like about the current space. This tried and true process helps our clients sort out the politics and helps us bring conflict to an agreed upon resolution.
- Meet with stakeholders: partners and staff, or the design committee, to discuss and brainstorm ideas about the look and feel of the new space. Use our process to come to consensus about the look and feel and we also help determine what will define success.
- Survey staff or other interested parties who cannot attend the possibilities workshop to obtain the input from a large pool of people
- Create a summary document

How We Do It
Step 2:
Design:
Develop a Shared Vision
This is when we visualize the “island of what can be.” Once we have a clear understanding of the project and people needs, we can do our “magic” and use design to solve problems. It should be noted, that since we create the computer model right away, the line is blurred between what used to be called Schematic Design, Design Development and Construction Documents phases. Every phase includes “CD’s” and every phase includes “Design.” This is why we compress the three phases into one step.
- Send a team to document existing conditions and create a 3D REVIT computer model.
- Hire a code consultant and other engineers as required.
- Develop the design concept
- Select finishes, carpet, paint, tile, light fixtures, specialty materials
- Review all materials and design ideas with the deciders
- Refine selections and design details
- Meet with the deciders to finalize the design
- Obtain pricing and finalize the budget
- Complete the code analysis for permitting
- Create construction, permit and furniture documents for bid, in coordination with construction/property managers/vendors/suppliers, etc.

Step 3:
Implementation of the Design

Having submitted a budget and schedule for client review, once it is approved, we start implementation immediately. We are available when you need us. Throughout the project we communicate with you, our consultants and contractors, so that problems and questions can be addressed as they arise.
- Bid and Permit coordination: coordinate with contractors, sub-contractors, suppliers, vendors
- Answer questions as needed during implementation (unlimited calls)
- Site visits and call-ins on a weekly basis during construction
- Punch list per phase
- Celebrate the Transformation!
