Life is Full of Surprises, Especially in the Design World

As much as I complain about the homogenization of Design due to the proliferation of Pinterest and Instagram trends, every once in a while I get astonished and pleased by an artist/artisan who can make something artful, technically brilliant, fascinating, and simply beautiful, all while being something useful! As my grandfather used to say, “what will they think of next!”

HERE’S the link to a short video on Instagram of the amazing and beautiful dining table that artist/artisan tk.fareed@instagram.com conceived and built.

Now that you have seen it, you must realize as I do, that is not mere craft/craftsmanship, although is that, but it is a little mind-blowing when you see real flowers, leaves, butterflies, moths, perfectly preserved in resign, and perfectly connected to a slab of a tree trunk.  Mother nature’s beauty preserved and made practical as a tabletop.

Thank you, T.K. Fareed, for giving us this pure “design at its best” moment.

Even after more than 40 years in the design and architecture industry, helping people who work, play, age, live, and learn, design and the design process still excites me.  I love what I do!
